Mazda RX-9 to succeed the RX-7?


Autocar are reporting that Mazda are currently developing the next rotary engine sports car, with the currentMazda RX-8 ceasing production after 2011 due to the stricter Euro-5 emission standards. The new car is believed to be named the RX-9, and will be more a successor to the RX-7 than an evolution of the RX-8 as it will be based on the Mazda MX-5 platform and will not feature the quasi-four door layout of the RX-8.

produce around 300 bhp, up more than 75bhp over the Mazda RX-8! Of course, the new engine will have to be clean and efficient to meet emission standards. Alternatively, the RX-9 could become a hydrogen halo vehicle
